My darling you have the immense privilege of being Jewish and never experiencing prejudice for that particular facet of your identity. There are other facets that have caused your suffering. I write this comment to your blog only to express compsssion toward people who will feel a twinge of mortal pain just reading the title of this entry. I hope they will go on to read through. Love

Well. The first woman to foster my grandmother caught the anti-Semitism on her way home from Paris with the infant. She had gone there because her own child had died. While she was gone lightning struck her husband dead in the fields. She decided that god had killed him for accepting a Jew. She swaddled Grandmere and hung her on the wall in an outbuilding until France rescued her. I attribute, with medical supervision, the deficits of her descendants to that abuse. I regard myself as a tough Jew who has suffered sanction after sanction in ways that the Jews who are our peers in the middle of US society have not. That is another aspect of the special position from which I undertake my duty to read and recognize this friend of my adult life as others may not.
